Care and Medical Rehabilitation Facility

The planned expansion of the Care and Medical Rehabilitation Facility is located in the historic surroundings of the monastery buildings designed by Jan Catenazzi, which were rebuilt after 1720 by Pompeo Ferrari. After the dissolution of the monastery, the abandoned buildings were transformed, and in 1838, the first psychiatric hospital in Greater Poland was opened. Between 1870-1874, the Provincial Sejm made the decision to build a new complex consisting of seven buildings, distributed landscape-wise in the surrounding park greenery. The pavilions were built in the "Rohbau" style. To this day, a part of the complex has been preserved, including the pavilion of the current Care and Medical Rehabilitation Facility. Due to functional and spatial constraints of the existing building, there arose the necessity to construct a new one, designed for 90 residents. The existing locational conditions, park greenery, and terrain shape influenced the need to locate the new building behind the existing one. To harmonize with it, similar divisions, proportions, and façade materials were applied in the design of the projected structure. The proposed building represents a transformation of the pavilion shape with the addition of one extra wing. Inside the building, a courtyard has been created, offering views of the nearby greenery. In the wing of the building facing the Owińska stream, rooms have been placed in the ground floor. By utilizing the existing terrain shape, natural light has been ensured for these rooms. A connector with the existing hospital building is also planned.
